Cheyenne, a valued member of our Accounting team, has been part of the First Service Bank family for most of her life—long before she became an associate. Her journey began at just eight years old when her dad set out to find a savings account designed specifically for kids. “When I was about 8 years old, my dad called around to a few banks and asked them about their child accounts. He wanted to find something geared towards younger children that encouraged them to save, but every bank he called said they didn’t offer anything like that until he called First Service Bank. They told him about the Johnny Appleseed program, and that sounded exactly like what he was looking for. He took me to the bank in Greenbrier and he opened a savings account for me and one for himself as well.”
Fridays soon became a tradition for the two of them. After school, they would stop by the bank so her dad could deposit into his savings account and give Cheyenne money to deposit into hers. “I remember it felt really cool to be a kid with a savings account and see my picture up on the wall with the other Johnny Appleseeds, and everyone at the bank was so nice and friendly. During the holidays, there was a grand piano in the lobby… I had a little Christmas song memorized and played it, and everyone clapped when I got done.”
Years later, Cheyenne finds herself working in the very place where her financial journey began. “It does feel pretty crazy how everything comes full circle. I’m very appreciative and grateful to be able to work here so close to home and doing something that I love. Since I was small, I’ve always been drawn to numbers and enjoyed math. Now I get to work in accounting and continue to learn and grow every day.” She’s also proud of the bank’s small-town, family values and commitment to patriotism. “I am so proud of everything the bank does to support our veterans like building wheelchair ramps and funding a trip to Washington DC.”
When it comes to what makes First Service Bank special, Cheyenne believes it’s the people. “We really work as a team and want to be here. Genuine positivity will always shine through for our customers to see.” She also has advice for parents considering opening a Franklin & Sammy Cents account for their children: “You don’t have to have some big lump sum every time you make a deposit. There is power in small, consistent deposits… It set me up for success, and I was able to use that money for college.”
First Service Bank’s Franklin & Sammy Cents Account is designed for children and teens ages 17 and younger, making it the perfect way to start teaching kids how to save—just like Cheyenne did. With just a $5 opening deposit, no monthly fees, interest that accrues over time, and a seamless conversion to a Saver Account at age 18, it’s a smart choice for starting good financial habits early. Plus, when you open an account, your child will receive a fun prize to make saving even more exciting. Stop by your local branch today to learn more—because Cheyenne’s story is proof that it’s never too early to start saving for the future.
